CommentsSenator Maurine Neuberger of Oregon presented the Richard L. Neuberger Award, honoring her late husband, writer , and U.S. Senator who was a member of the Society until his death. Maurine Neuberger said her late husband had often commented that he got more satisfaction from seeing his by-line on a magazine article than from finding it on the front page of a newspaper. The Senator presented the 1966 Neuberger Award to Norman Cousins, editor of Saturday Review, for the magazine's "courage and persistence in presenting the issue of peace". Cousins called on eight members of the SR staff to take a bow for the magazine as a team, which by one rough count produced 65 articles during the year related to the peace theme.
